Festival Fashion – Your Must-Have Items for the Season

There are many different festivals taking place in the UK throughout the year, many of them during the summer months. With summer now well and truly on its way, many people will be gearing up for the smorgasbord of festivals taking place. This means getting online and purchasing tickets, booking time off work, making sure you have a decent tent to take along – and getting suitable clothes for the festivals you’re going to.

When it comes to festival fashion, everyone has their own ideas about what to wear. However, there are a few items that all festival-goers should have or invest in for the 2013 season. Many of these are not just fashion items but are also very practical, making them essentials.

5 essential items for your 2013 festival wardrobe

While the type and design of the clothes you buy for your festival-going will be determined by your personal taste, budget and the type of festivals you’ll be attending, here are 5 essentials that will prove invaluable:

A good pair of boots or wellies: Choosing the right footwear is vital for festivals given that most are held in muddy fields that can become swamp-like if and when it rains. You therefore need to make sure you have a good, comfortable pair of boots or wellies to take with you. You will find plenty of different styles available, so finding a pair that looks great as well as being practical shouldn’t be too difficult.

Something to take off the chill: You need to make sure you have something that you can wear to take off early evening chills. Even though many festivals are held in the summer, there is no guarantee that you will get warm evenings. Wandering around in a t-shirt as the chill sets in can spoil your enjoyment, so take along something such as a light jacket, a cardigan, or even one of the variety of trendy waistcoats available so that you have something you can layer up with.

Comfortable jeans: Most festival-goers will have plenty of jeans in their wardrobe, but the key is to make sure you have comfy ones. Bear in mind that you will be spending a lot of time sitting and standing around, so you don’t want ones that are going to cut into your waist, chafe or feel downright uncomfortable. Go for something with stretch and give so that you do not have to undo the button every time you overeat.

Denim shorts: If by chance we do have a proper summer, it is a good idea to have a nice pair of denim shorts to wear instead of jeans. This way, you can enjoy feeling comfortable and cool, which is important given the huge numbers of people that will probably be giving off body heat in the area.

A hat: Heading to a festival in the summer and sitting outdoors all day in the sun (should it appear) may seem like a great idea, but it can quickly become a nightmare if you suffer sunstroke. You should therefore make sure you have a decent hat that you can take along with you to protect your head and face from the heat while still enabling you to sit outside and enjoy the warmth and festivities.

These are just a few of the essential items that can help to create a festival-friendly wardrobe and allow you to kick back and have a great time without worrying.
